Guest speakers….x 201MC

The experience from the interviews was more than great! It was very helpful to experience and do all of this, in the beginning, I felt a bit intimidated because professionals were standing infant of me and I had to be professional as well and know exactly what I’m doing. I learned how to be more professional, how to be more organised, especially i learned what I need to do in order to achieve my dream in the PR industry.

Lauren Bromley – WPR Digital Marketing Agency

Today our first guest speaker called Lauren Bromley came today to speak about her career and the paths she took to accomplish her dream in Digital Marketing. Lauren started off by giving an informative presentation. In this presentation, she spoke about her time in Birmingham University studying creative industry and the jobs you can get after completing this course such as Production Assistance, Brand Manager, PR Account Executive, Freelance etc. Lauren went on to explain the procedure she used to find a job after graduation and how booked career talks and attended career events to help in her decision for her career path. successfully she got an internship during the summer but wasn’t too happy about the job role due to the lack of queries of the job role and she regretted it. Lauren advised that when applying, at the interview we should ask a lot of questions about the job role, make sure it’s right for you and get paid. she advised that a lot of people apply for jobs than 3 months later quit because they feel the job isn’t right for them. This helped me to understand the procedure one should take when looking for a job. Lauren got her first job as a Junior Account Executive in Birmingham. For this type of job role the essential skills one requires is Communication skills, hard work and adequate knowledge in Digital Marketing. She spoke briefly about the job role which really intrigued me. She stated that she only worked at that company for 2 months and then got a better offer for a Social Media Manager and she enjoys this role better. She spoke about what her job role entitles which is more client facing, attending film shoots and networking and events etc. I am personally glad Lauren came to speak with us merely because before this guest speaker presentation I had already made up my mind I wanted to go into Public Relations but didn’t realise there were so many sectors in public relations It was nice to start off with a female guest speaker who spoke and advised us on the right routes to pass when applying for jobs after graduation.
